Many workshops have specialist work stands for recumbent trikes. I considered building my own, but I have better projects to fill my time. My solution uses a trestle table, lumber, and a car stand.
The table I had was not as wide as the trike wheelbase. I solved this with a piece of left-over pine sleeper and some smaller pieces of wood to stop the wheels from rolling.
I am good to go if I am working on brakes or cabling. The rear wheel must be free to spin for anything to do with gear changing. I used a car stand and added a hook-and-loop strap. Because this affects stability, I also strap the trike down to the table.
There is one more problem. A deadlift of the trike from the ground to stand can be a problem due to weight and awkward shape. If I had access to a broader table, I could use a ramp to roll the trike into position. I use my ramp when I find a better table or when I no longer have the strength to lift the trike – whichever comes first.
I would love to hear about other solutions. Add a comment below if you would be so kind.
